Shorter article for today, but wanted to share this lo-fi track from Costa Rican artist Styles Dangerfield called “darkness”.
The track sounds like something found on an old cassette tape, with the animated music video’s VHS effects matching that vibe. It gives late-2000s stomp-clap indie folk vibes, complete with backing brass, jangling guitars, and handheld percussion. I wouldn’t be surprised if this was recorded with folks singing around a crowded campfire.
This style of music seems to be Styles Dangerfield’s deal, and I appreciate that as someone who grew up spinning similar tracks in the witching hours at my college radio station. Happy to feature “darkness” today! Check out the song and little animation for it below, and follow Styles on the socials for upcoming tracks as well.
