Another music blog? In this economy?
Well, of course.
Songs From Friends is a website covering songs of all stripes: Mostly independent music, but also poetry, theater, and big moments in culture.
In a time of mass media consolidation – where major networks and publications covering news, sports, and culture have fallen under the purview of billionaires with horrendous agendas – small but mighty voices have become more important than ever. And in these moments where the common citizen of Earth feels crushed underneath the heel of powerful elitist systems, there has never been a more important time to share a song.
Thus the main ethos of Songs From Friends: We want to treat this as a place where you can come to chat about music, talk about what’s on your mind, and maybe find something new and inspiring to put on your playlist. The algorithms and platforms can only do so much. But a recommendation from a friend can do more.
As Songs From Friends grows, we hope to build this community and provide more opportunities for connection (without, of course, becoming a horrible behemoth akin to other major platforms sapping our attention spans). Like the many other online indie sites before us, we want to own our work and give you not just content, but ideas. We want to take pride in our work, and we want you to take pride in reading it, because friends don’t let friends read slop (and especially not AI slop.)
If you like what you read on Songs From Friends, tell your friends about us. The more, the merrier. Thanks for stopping by.
